The longest, broadest, coolest-burning size of the line
The My Father La Antiguedad Super Toro is a full-bodied 7 by 56 - a Nicaraguan puro with an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. It's the big flagship size of the line, the longest and broadest of these bold, dark cigars, and it delivers La Antiguedad's power broad, cool and stately. It smokes leather, dark bittersweet cocoa, cedar, espresso and mellowed black pepper over about ninety-five minutes - the longest, most relaxed way to enjoy one of the family's boldest blends.
What the huge 7 by 56 format does is broaden and cool the power. The big ring puts a lot of tobacco in play against proportionally little wrapper, so the ember burns cool and the leather-and-cocoa profile spreads wide and smooth, the Nicaraguan pepper mellowed into balance rather than the slim Corona Grande's sharp spice. It's the most relaxed, generous size of the line, bold power delivered at a stately pace over an hour and a half, the Habano Rosado sweetness rounding the rich dark volume. Construction is classic My Father: a dark oily wrapper, an excellent draw, straight burn, a thick heavy ash.
My reservations are about scale and strength. It's a genuinely full-bodied cigar - one of My Father's boldest - so it's not for a mild palate, a beginner, or an empty stomach even at this cool-burning size. And the 7 by 56 is a big commitment in both the ninety-five-minute burn and the large ring, which not everyone enjoys in the hand. If you want the blend tighter and quicker, the Robusto; for sharp, wrapper-forward spice, the slim Corona Grande. For a long, cool, generous evening with La Antiguedad's dark power, though, the Super Toro is the grandest expression.
Where it fits is the unhurried evening smoke for an experienced smoker who loves a big ring and has time to spare - a long after-dinner sit, a weekend cigar, or the size for savoring the bold blend cool and slow. It pairs beautifully with a dark spirit or strong coffee. As the largest size of a bold, dark blend, the Super Toro is La Antiguedad at maximum.
