The elegant, focused size where wrapper and spice lead
The My Father La Antiguedad Corona Grande is a full-bodied 6.375 by 47 - a Nicaraguan puro with an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. It's the slender size of the line, the narrowest ring among these bold, dark cigars, and it delivers La Antiguedad's power in its most elegant, focused form. It smokes leather, cedar, black pepper, dark cocoa and espresso over about seventy-five minutes, with the wrapper's sweet-spicy character coming through sharpest of any size.
What the slim 47 ring does is concentrate and sharpen. With less filler against proportionally more wrapper, the Habano Rosado's sweet-spice and the blend's cedar and pepper come through more prominently and precisely than in the fatter sizes - lively, focused, elegant rather than broad and round. La Antiguedad's dark power stays full-bodied but pointed here, the narrow format keeping every note sharp over a longer seventy-five-minute burn. Construction is classic My Father: a dark oily wrapper, an excellent draw, straight burn, a tight ash.
My reservations are about strength and pace. It's a genuinely full-bodied cigar - one of My Father's boldest - so it's not for a mild palate, a beginner, or an empty stomach. And the slim 47 ring runs a touch warmer and sharper than the fat sizes, so it rewards a patient cadence; puff too fast and the spice turns edgy. If you want a rounder, cooler mouthfeel, the Toro or Toro Gordo suit better, and for a gentler start with the family the My Father Connecticut is the place. For a precise, spicy, elegant full-bodied smoke where the wrapper leads, though, the Corona Grande is a standout.
Where it fits is the evening smoke for an experienced smoker who prefers a slimmer, more elegant cigar and wants the wrapper and spice front and center - a focused long sit, a refined nightcap, or a change of pace from fat-ring smokes. It pairs beautifully with a dark spirit or strong coffee. As the slenderest size of a bold blend, the Corona Grande is its most precise, elegant expression.
