Drew Estate's refined, Cuban-inspired medium
The Herrera Esteli Robusto Grande is a Drew Estate blend built by Willy Herrera - an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Honduran binder and Nicaraguan fillers, made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Esteli, Nicaragua. It reads medium in both strength and body: cedar, cream, cinnamon baking spice, red pepper, a honeyed tobacco sweetness, and a coffee-cocoa close. This was Drew Estate's deliberate move into classic, non-infused premium cigars, and I find its restraint genuinely appealing.
What makes it work is balance and texture. Herrera, a Miami-born roller of Cuban descent, blended this to evoke a Cuban-style profile, and it delivers - cedar and cream carried on a smooth, slow-burning draw with gentle spice for lift. The construction is dependable: even burn, solid ash, effortless draw. It's an elegant all-day medium rather than a strength statement.
The honest reservation is intensity for the price. At roughly $10-13 a stick you can find more powerful Nicaraguans, and infused-cigar fans who came to Drew Estate for bold flavor may find this understated. Whether its refined medium offers enough complexity for you is a taste call. For a comparably polished, milder-medium Ecuadorian-wrapped Nicaraguan, the Padron Damaso No. 8 is a natural cross-shop; for a cheaper cedar-and-spice medium, the Illusione Rothchildes is worth a look. But the Herrera's Cuban-esque character is its own draw.
Where it fits is the all-day slot for a smoker who values refinement and balance over power - someone who wants a cedary, creamy cigar they can enjoy with morning coffee or a quiet afternoon. It is not a strength bomb and never pretends to be. As a benchmark refined-medium from Drew Estate, the Robusto Grande is one I reach for often. It's proof that the company behind the boldest infused cigars can also make something quiet, classic and genuinely elegant.
